FLORIDA — Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit investigators were called to investigate the death of a 2-year-old girl whose neck became entangled in loop-style cords of vertical blinds in her parent’s bedroom.

The child’s mother, Jenna Holland, had put Mary Molina down for a nap on her bed. She and another child had gone to another part of the home during the incident.

When the mom stepped out of the room, the young girl got up and began to play with the vertical blinds near the bed. When the mom returned to check on the child, she found her nonresponsive and attempted to perform CPR.

Deputies arrived at approximately 12:30 p.m. and attempted to render aid but were unable to revive the child.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue continued lifesaving efforts and transported the girl to Holy Cross Hospital.

She was pronounced dead at 1:29 p.m.

Rena Molina, the child’s father, was not home during the incident but arrived soon after first responders.

The death investigation is ongoing.
