SPRING VALLEY, New York — A mother is being accused of tying her 4-year-old son to bush while she went to work.

The woman told police she had no one to take care of her son while she went to her babysitting job.

According to ABC7, the mother, 22, didn’t want to take the boy to the house she works at or let the family she works for know she had her child with her.

So she tied the boy to the bush by a leash attached to his backpack at the condo complex. The boy’s ‘monkey’ backpack had a 4-foot long leash.

Witnesses told police the mother had left her son outside for more than a half-hour, though she claimed it was only 10 minutes. Detective Robert Bookstein said he calculated the apartment was about 200 feet from the bush and the mother could not see her son or hear him from inside.

The boy was not injured and it was unclear how long the woman planned to leave him there.

The mother faces a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

She was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and released on $2,500 bail. The boy was turned over to a relative.
