The attack against French satirical newspaper office of Charlie Hebdo and the senseless killing of twelve people has prompted mourners from all across the world to protest the act.

More than 100,000 people have gathered across France in response to the Wednesday killing. Whether online or in crowds, people have gathered to come to terms with the devastating reality of what has occurred.

At least 35,000 people have gathered on the streets of Paris to hold vigils as well as 20,000 in the French cities of Toulhouse and Lyon.

Additional mourners – by the thousands – took to the streets in Bordeaus and Marsielle.

Many protesters and twitter users have adopted the hash-tag #JeSuisCharlie, or “I am Charlie.” Protesters can be seen holding up posters or banners with the words.

Other slogans such as “Press freedom has no price” as well as those referring to the freedom of the press were proclaimed.

Demonstrations were also held in other cities across Europe, such as Berlin, Lausanne, and London.

Thousands congregated at London’s Trafalgar Square to show solidarity with the French publication.

Nicholas Keyworth, who spoke to The Telegraph, had this to say about the protest in London:

It is “a completely still and silent protest. Feels as though something very special is happening through a collective expression of solidarity. People of all nationalities – lots of French of course, but others too. And different religions too. This is a very touching expression of the desire for freedom.”

In central Paris, crowds are gathering in protest and in solidarity as well, where a rally is being held by France’s national Journalist Union.
