Murder Charges Filed After Woman’s Body Found Sealed in Wall

A Los Angeles man was charged today with the 2009 murder of a woman whose body was discovered last year behind a wall in a Lomita residence, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Randolph E. Garbutt, 43, the victim’s roommate, is scheduled to be arraigned today at the Torrance Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Department 4.. Prosecutors will ask that bail be set at $1 million.

On July 2, 2015, a body was excavated from behind a wall at a residence in the 26800 block of Western Avenue in unincorporated Lomita. The victim was later identified as Raven Campbell, 37, who had been missing since June 2009. Officials said she died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Garbutt is charged with one count of murder with the special allegation that he personally used a dangerous weapon, a hammer.

If convicted, Garbutt faces up to life in state prison.
