TENNESSEE — Kathleen Daly surrendered to the MNPD on outstanding warrants charging her with attempted murder and other crimes in connection with last week’s shooting of East Precinct Officer Terrance McBride at the Cumberland Inn on W. Trinity Lane.

Daly, 26, of Murfreesboro, is the person who answered the door to motel room 104 last Tuesday morning when Officers McBride and Ky Luu responded to a citizen’s call that a man in that room, Paul Hardesty, was possibly wanted on outstanding warrants and had spoken of committing a robbery.

Daly gave the officers a false name, false social security number, and claimed that she was alone in the room. As the officers conducted a protective sweep, Hardesty, 43, a parolee from New York, opened fire from the bathroom with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Officer McBride suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

He and Officer Luu returned fire and exited the room. Moments later, Hardesty used the shotgun to fatally shoot himself in the head.

In addition to attempted murder, Daly is also charged with criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia, and giving false information to officers.

She and Hardesty remain under investigation in relation to robberies and burglaries in the mid-state region.

Daly is being held in the Metro Jail in lieu of $265,000 bond.

Officer McBride is continuing to recover from the shotgun wound.
