The Charlottesville killer was polite, cooperative and even contrite just 3 months before his monstrous attack on civilians.
James Alex Fields Jr., 20, of Maumee, Ohio, plowed a car into a crowd of counterprotesters, killing a woman and injuring 19 other people, including five critically.
At least 19 people were injured in street brawls and other violence at the rally.
Separately, a police helicopter monitoring the scene crashed 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Charlottesville, killing the two Virginia State Police troopers on board.
