Newborn Baby Found Alive In Dumpster, Teen Arrested

PADUCAH, Kentucky — On 7/30/2015, EMS was dispatched to a residence in the area of Berger Road and Goodman Drive, in reference to a medical emergency. It was later determined that the female had given birth to a baby hours prior according to medical staff. The female was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A search warrant was executed at the residence and numerous pieces of evidence were collected that pertained to this investigation.

Detectives identified a 17 year old B/M as a person of interest in being the individual that had disposed of the infant in the dumpster at approximately 15:00 on 7/30/15.

The individual was located and taken to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department where he was interviewed. During the interview the juvenile admitted to being the individual responsible for disposing of the infant.

The teen is the boyfriend of the baby’s 15-year-old mother, who was taken to a hospital with bleeding hours after the baby was found.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely. The juvenile was transported and lodged in the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center.

Initial report: On July 30, 2015 at approximately 15:03, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the area of Berger Road and Goodman Drive in reference to an infant that had just been discarded into a dumpster. Mercy Regional EMS and the Paducah Police Department also responded to the area to assist.

Mercy Regional EMS transported the infant to a nearby hospital and the infant is in stable condition at this time.

The eyewitness described the suspect that discarded the infant as follows:
“Younger” Black male with a flattop style haircut, approximately 5’8”-5’10”, approximately 180 pounds, wearing dark colored shorts with a stripe on the sides, and an off white colored tank top.

The suspect was last observed walking towards Lone Oak Road on Berger Road.

Detectives are asking for anyone with information related to this incident or information about anyone that was at or near a full term pregnancy that may have been involved in this incident to contact the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department at 270-444-4719.
