NYC Park Robber Foiled By Tracking App

NEW YORK — (NYPD News) — Manhattan police officers used the “Find My iPhone App” to arrest a man wanted for a robbery in Central Park on Monday, September 19.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., two fifteen-year-old girls were sitting on a park bench at 107 Street and West Drive when they were robbed of their cell phones by a knife-wielding man.

Central Park Precinct Police Officers Dmytrow and Polanco, along with Detective Leon, were able to track the phone to Tompkins Square Park in the East Village.

The man was identified inside the park by one of the victims and subsequently arrested after a foot pursuit by the police officers.

The 18-year-old suspect was charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
