NYPD Nabs Man Wanted In Multiple “Wallapop” Robberies

NEW YORK — Two Neighborhood Coordinating Officers (NCO) from PSA 8 in the Bronx arrested a man earlier this month wanted for multiple robberies. The suspect initially would make contact with people selling cell phones and other items on the “Offeredup” and “Wallapop” internet applications. He then arrange to meet them at the Sotomayor Housing Development where he would rob them.

NCO Police Officers Alvarez and Martinez were on patrol within the housing development on Thursday, May 19 at approximately 6:00 p.m., when they observed a transaction occurring between two males in front of 1791 Bruckner Boulevard. The police officers became suspicious and approached the men to investigate. While speaking to the males, the officers noticed that one of them fit the description of the suspect wanted for the robberies. The police officers were told by the other person that he had been contacted on the “Wallapop” application and had come to sell an iPhone 6 to the suspect. The suspect was quickly taken into custody after further questioning.

The suspect was later identified by the victims of the previous robberies.
