NEW YORK — (NYPD News) — Police officers from PSA 8 in the Bronx spent time reading to local children on a recent Saturday afternoon.

Field Training Officer John Ford and new Police Officers Jesus Cruz-Carraballo and Jose Echevarria took time to connect with the young community members at the Sotomayor Community Center.

The police officers were invited by the administrators as part of an ongoing reading program that allows officers to engage the children in an informal setting.

“The two police officers with me were only 6 weeks out of the academy. So it was all new for them, but it was a great experience for all of us,” said Police Officer Ford
