Officers Seize a Million Dollars In Methamphetamine at U.S./Mexico Border

PROGRESO, Texas – Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry seized alleged methamphetamine valued at nearly $1 million this weekend.

“Drug smugglers employ some unique and ever changing methods to smuggle their drugs into the United States,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry. “However, our officers continuously remain on the lookout for new and different smuggling trends smugglers use in their attempts to get their drugs on our streets.”

The seizure occurred on Saturday afternoon, October 14th when CBP officers at the Progreso International Bridge referred a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old male United States citizen from Mesquite, Texas for a secondary inspection. In secondary, CBP officers discovered 48.45 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within 10 beverage containers in the vehicle’s interior. The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is $969,142.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics and the vehicle. The man was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
