One Dead, 15 Injured In Festival Tent Collapse

Wood Dale, IL – On Sunday, August 2nd at approximately 2:40pm, hail and extremely high winds
uprooted a tent at the scene of Prairie Fest in Wood Dale.

There were multiple injuries, including 1 fatality and 15 persons transported to local hospitals. The
Wood Dale Fire Department coordinated an EMS response, and also treated and released several people on the scene.

The victim has been identified as Wood Dale resident Steven Nincic, 35 years of age.

At this time, we do not have any further information about the condition of those
transported to the hospital.

Wood Dale Prairie Fest is a four-day festival organized “to encourage community involvement and togetherness.” The festival was held July 30 to Aug. 2.

The remainder of the festival was cancelled following the incident.

The DuPage County Coroner and DuPage County Sheriff’s office is assisting Wood Dale with the
investigation of the incident.
