At least 65 people have been killed and at least 150 injured in Lahore on Sunday after an explosion rocked through the parking area of a crowded park.

Police have reported that it appeared to be a suicide bomb.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

Many experts have speculated that Christian families that were out for the Easter celebrations may have been the target.

Lahore is the capital of Punjab, Pakistan’s largest province.

“At least 56 deaths have been confirmed, but the nature of the blast is not clear,” Mohammad Usman, the top administrative official in Lahore reported to AFP.

Rescue officials confirmed that the bodies of more than 50 deceased had been taken to hospitals around the city.

All hospitals in the surrounding area have been put on emergency alert to tend to the injured.

Pakistan has long struggled with issues of Taliban insurgency, criminal gangs and violence.
