BROOKLYN PARK, Md.  — Police have charged the parents of an 8-month-old baby boy with child neglect after they say he was left alone at home while his parents went to the store.

On July 12, 2015, at 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the 4000 block of Belle Grove Road for a report of child neglect.

Upon arrival, the complainant reported that he returned to his apartment to find an 8-month-old child left alone in his playpen. He advised that the child belonged to two acquaintances of his that had been staying with him at his residence, and he did not know how long the child had been left alone or the whereabouts of the parents.

The child was only wearing a diaper and the residence was unsecured. While still on scene investigating the incident, the parents of the child returned.

The suspects stated they put their child down to sleep for the night and then they left to walk to the Royal Farm’s Store over the Baltimore City line approximately 1 mile from the residence. The suspects stated that they thought the child would be fine sleeping while they went to the store and that they were only gone from the residence for approximately 20 minutes.

The suspects were arrested on scene and charged with Neglect of a Minor and Confined Unattended Child. Child Protective Services was contacted and advised of the situation. The child was remanded to the custody of its grandparents.
