SYOSSET, Long Island — Three people are dead after a small plane crashed near a school on Long Island Tuesday.

According to WABC, the crash occurred at 2:39 on Cold Spring Road in Syosset.

The aircraft was a Beech BE35, the FAA said.

Administrators at Syosset High School, South Woods Middle School and Berry Hill Elementary School were holding students until the scene was cleared. No children were injured.

The Nassau County Police department said, “A small plane suffered an unknown problem and crashed in Syosset at 3:45 p.m. creating a large debris field. There were three persons on the board at the time and have been confirmed deceased. There are no injuries reported on the ground at this time. The investigation is ongoing.”

The plane was headed to Connecticut from South Carolina.
