Police Arrest NJ Woman for Omega Institute Fire

A New Jersey woman was accused Monday afternoon of intentionally setting a cabin on fire at Omega Institute in Clinton.

Clinton, New York – On October 4, at 6:33 a.m., New York State Police were dispatched to the Omega Institute, located on Lake Drive in the Town of Clinton, for a reported structure fire.

An investigation conducted by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation revealed that Tracy Piwowarczyk, 29 years old, of Piscataway, New Jersey, intentionally started the fire at the institute.

Piwowarczyk was arrested at approximately 8:45 a.m. and charged with Arson 2nd Degree, a Class B Felony, and 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class D Felony.

Piwowarczyk was charged with Reckless Endangerment due to the fact that there were three occupants in the cabin at the time of the fire. A motive is unclear.

The defendant was arraigned before the Town of Clinton Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. She is due to return to the Town of Clinton Court on October 9, 2015.
