Police in Toulouse in south-west France have arrested a man on suspicion of planning to commit a terror attack on New Year’s Eve.

Two others were arrested in Toulouse in a separate raid, a police source told Reuters.

Both were identified as radical Islamists

The man arrested in Cugnaux, west of Toulouse, “is known to police, he is suspected of wanting to carry out an attack on Dec 31,” the police source said.

Police confirmed that the suspects had been under police surveillance for several months.

The arrests come after a series of terror attacks by extremists connected with ISIS in France, Germany and Belgium over the previous year.

France remains in a continued state of emergency after the November 2015 Paris attack, and attacks in Nice in France.

A judicial source also confirmed to Reuters that the arrests and said they had taken place on Tuesday and concerned two separate cases.
