Vancouver — The person (presumed to be a male) responsible for spray painting a statue of Jesus has been caught on camera with police now wanting to identify him. In the camera footage a person can be seen approaching the statue and spray painting the chest and genital area of the statue.

The act of mischief occurred overnight on July 23, 2015 at St.Pius X Catholic Church, on Mt Seymour Parkway, North Vancouver. The North Vancouver RCMP has investigated two other incidents of mischief at that location in recent months. They began on April 11, 2015 when the legs of the sculpture were broken causing $5000 damage.

In the case of the next incident, on May 09, 2015, a rock was used to re-damage the statue after it had been repaired.
The local parish, along with police, are very concerned over the ongoing wilful damage targeting the statue, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP.

Police are now releasing to the public a photograph of the suspect in the process of committing this most recent act of vandalism, in the hopes someone recognizes the culprit.

If you recognize this individual you are encouraged to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311, quoting file 2015-17928. You may remain anonymous by calling BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
