Police: Man Strangled College Security Guard Unconscious

VERMONT — On Sunday, around 12:20am, officers from the Rutland City Police Department responded to the College of Saint Joseph on Clement Road to the report of a vehicle that attempted to run over a security guard.

Officer Ashe and Officer Harvey arrived at the college and discovered there was an underage drinking party in progress. The security guard attempted to break up the party but was met with resistance from 20 year old Justin Stevens who had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Stevens chased the security guard to his vehicle then assaulted him. Stevens strangled the security guard rendering him unconscious then fled the scene with Heidi Jones.

Regional Ambulance Service responded to the college and transported the security guard to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the assault.

The Rutland County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Walker Mountain Road in West Rutland and located Stevens and Jones. Both individuals were place into police custody.

Deputies transported Stevens and Jones to the Rutland City Police Department. Stevens was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct then jailed at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility.

Bail was set at $5,000. Jones was released pending further investigation.
