Police: NY Drug Overdose Death Leads to Takedown of ‘Drug Distribution Enterprise’

This investigation began as a result of a drug overdose in the Town of Amherst. The Amherst Police Department enlisted the assistance of NYSP-CNET to assist with this multi-jurisdictional investigation.

Amherst, NEW YORK — (New York State Police) — The NYSP Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) working in conjunction with the Amherst Police Department arrested four individuals on Erie County Indictment Warrants for multiple counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree.

This investigation began as a result of a drug overdose in the Town of Amherst. The Amherst Police Department enlisted the assistance of NYSP-CNET to assist with this multi-jurisdictional investigation.

The family of the deceased person was able to provided information that ultimately led to the identification of a drug distribution enterprise that was operating in the City of Buffalo.

Undercover agents were able to make numerous undercover purchases from several defendants that were all associated with one another.

Erie County warrants were issued for LUIS A. MEDINA, YANUEL SOTO-MEDINA, 21, JUANBERTO RIVERA, 18 and OMAR AYALA, 17 all from Buffalo, NY.

During the course of this investigation information was obtained that associates of this Buffalo group were utilizing a hotel room in the in the Town of Tonawanda to sell heroin.

Undercover operations were conducted and a search warrant was obtained.

After the execution of the search warrant, numerous bags of heroin were found and led to the arrested CHRISTIAN VILLOT 31 of Buffalo, NY and OMAR AYALA, 17 for sale and possession.
