Police Say Former Braves Pitcher Who Died Of Catastrophic Organ Failure May Have Overdosed

WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) The Former Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tommy Hanson who died on Monday from catastrophic organ failure may have overdosed on drugs, according to police.

to provide a definitive answer, a report from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office lists the 29-year-old’s cause of death as ‘overdose’.

Hanson, who was drafted in 2005 and worked his way up the ranks at the Braves before moving to the Angels, had just become a free agent before he was rushed to hospital over the weekend.

According to WSBTV, Hanson got into trouble early Sunday morning when he began having trouble breathing, before being taken to hospital.

Once there it is thought his condition declined quickly, and he fell into a coma before passing away on Monday.

The Braves confirmed that their former player had died in a statement late Monday evening, according to ESPN, as tributes poured in for him.

The Braves’ twitter account posted an RIP message and an image of him in team uniform, while the Angels wrote: ‘Sending our thoughts to former SP, Tommy Hanson, at this time.’

Hanson was drafted in 2005 and worked his way through the ranks, spending four of his five major-league seasons as a member of the Braves.
