MINNESOTA — Saint Paul police officers were called to a residence on the 600 block of Burr Street N. in the early morning of Thursday, July 2, 2015.
Officers responded to a call of a possible break in at the residence at 4:34 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Obinna Udo Nwankpa, 30, of Saint Paul, lying on the basement steps with an apparent stab wound to his chest. Saint Paul Fire Medics were called to the scene and transported the victim to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:51 a.m.
Natalie Jonelle Pollard, 34, who lives at the residence and knew the victim, was taken into custody at the scene. After being questioned by investigators, she was arrested and booked into the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center for murder.
From The Pioneer Press: “Neighbors said Pollard lives there with several elementary school-aged children. They said that she was pregnant and that Nwankpa was the only boyfriend they saw coming to her home.
“She didn’t seem like a violent person, (but) she wouldn’t let anybody mess with her,” said neighbor T.J. Melton, whose mother braided Pollard’s hair.
But Mishalina Ramsey, who identified herself as a close friend of Nwankpa’s, said the couple dated off and on and fought frequently, and she noted that tensions had escalated recently.
“They always got into it because he thought she was cheating on him with the father of her children,” Ramsey said.”
