East Baltimore—Marion Daughton was sentenced to 100 years this week. She was dubbed Public Enemy #1 by Baltimore Police in September of 2016 and was found guilty of two counts of attempted second degree murder and two counts of using a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence. Baltimore City jurors also found Daughton guilty of possessing a regulated firearm after being convicted of a disqualifying crime.
Daughton had been involved in an ongoing dispute with two women during the summer of 2016. On September 5, 2016, tensions between Daughton and her associates and the two women and their associates culminated in a standoff at the 2600 block of East Monument Street in East Baltimore’s Madison-Eastend neighborhood. The two groups confronted one another and began arguing. The crowd then moved to a side street where weapons were eventually drawn and a shootout ensued.
“It’s absurd that fistfights are escalating to gun battles on our streets, where young people are indiscriminately losing their lives.” State’s Attorney Mosby said.
Daniel Smalls was killed in the altercation. Two women—who were not armed—were shot as well.
An investigation revealed that Daughton was responsible for shooting the two women.
“Heinous crimes deserve substantial punishment and I believe that is exactly what was handed down at this sentencing. This Public Enemy #1 will never walk our streets again and does not deserve to live freely in our communities,” said State’s Attorney Mosby. “I applaud ASA Dunty for the incredible work he did on this case, securing a conviction without participation from any of the victims or witnesses at trial.”
