RECALL: General Motors Recalls 30,000 SUV’s After Windshield Wipers Could Set On Fire

General Motors has now announced that it is recalling over 30,000 of it’s SUV’s after they discovered an electrical fault with the windshield wipers that meant they could catch on fire.

Executives at GM said 32,000 Buick Envlave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia 2016 model SUV’s are currently affected by the issue.

GM say that a fault with the wiper blades may cause electrical terminals to touch, meaning it overheats and could burst into flames.

Owners are being advised to take their cars back to a dealer where replacement parts are available.

The company has told drivers that if rain stops them from taking their SUVs to dealers, it will pick up the vehicles and will arrange rental cars if parts aren’t available.

The plant’s quality manager reported the problem on Sept 21, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall began nine days later.

Of the 32,000 vehicles though to have been affected, only around 6,400 have so far been sold, the rest are still sitting in showrooms.

General Motors bosses say that, to the best of their knowledge, no fires have happened outside the plant so far.
