September 11, 2001, this is the day that shook the world and took the whole world by surprise, in the most devastating terrorist attack in history, Middle East terrorists struck at the heart of every American.

Upon initial reports, at least 10,000 people were ultimately feared dead as the hijacked airlines smashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in Washington.

The effects of this attack were actually visible from Space. The commander of the International Space Station, said: “As we went over Maine, we could see New York and the smoke from the fires. Our prayers and condolences to everyone.”

Countless victims within the towering infernos burned, choked and even leapt to their deaths. Then the two giant buildings collapsed, killing and tragically trapping thousands, including emergency workers who worked tirelessly to rescue victims.

“You can be sure that the American spirit will prevail over this tragedy.”
– Colin Powell

Today, like every other anniversary after it happened , a resilient nation will look forward to the future, but remember the past.

Family members of victims who were killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks at the World Trade Center will participate in a private commemoration ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial And Museum which will be broadcast live on the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s homepage for all to watch.

The bell of hope will be rung at St. Paul’s Chapel in New York City in remembrance for all those that were killed 14 years ago, St Paul’s Chapel was nicknamed the “little chapel that stood”, for remaining practically intact following the destruction of the twin towers.

“Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11.”
– President Obama in a 2011 radio address.

RIP to the 2,977 victims of this tragedy.
