An 18-year-old student has een banned from school after she dyed her hair with what school officials called a ‘Ronald McDonald red.’

She was told to leave the school premises when she arrived earlier this week with her new hair style.

Sarah Bonacci, who attends Oklahoma City’s Emerson Alternative School – for students who are struggling to graduate elsewhere – has missed at least three days of classes following the ruling.

According to her mother, school officials made a mockery of Sarah, first comparing her to the McDonald’s mascot, then suggesting she could return to class if she wore a wig.

Speaking to local news channel KFOR, her mother Vanessa Tucker said that a school official went even further and told all Sarah’s teachers not to even give her any work to do at home.

“They told her to leave because her hair color was not a natural color. She’s not allowed to wear red-colored hair to school,” said Tucker.

However, the school and school board appear to be relenting. An Oklahoma City Schools spokesperson told News 9: ‘The district has conducted a preliminary investigation into the incident and determined that Emerson’s policy regarding dyed hair will be administratively reviewed.’

And tucker told KFOR that Sarah’s principal had called her and apologized, explaining that she had been out of town for the past five days and was unaware of the situation.
