SAN JOSE, California — (Scroll down for video) — The man suspected of killing multiple cats in the San Jose area appeared in court today. A judge denied his motion for release.

On September 21, 2015, at 9:40 P.M., a theft of a domesticated orange tabby cat, Gogo, occurred outside a residence on the 1600 block of Hyacinth Lane.

The surveillance video shows an unknown white male lure the cat to him. The white male then grabbed the cat and ran away holding the cat.

San Jose Police detectives immediately began conducting follow up investigations.

Several people contacted the San Jose Police Department and provided significant information about the possible suspect.

On Thursday October 8, 2015, at approximately 6:30 A.M., San Jose Police located and arrested 24 year old Robert Farmer while he was sleeping in his vehicle in the area of Hillsdale Avenue and Leigh Avenue in San Jose. A search of suspect Farmer’s vehicle revealed a deceased cat concealed within the vehicle.

From ABC7: Farmer, the son of a retired San Jose Police Department captain, was formally charged with animal cruelty and other related crimes. The prosecutor said he had been abducting, hurting, and killing cats since mid-September.

After ABC7 News began reporting on the possibility of a serial cat abductor, other neighbors told us they too had cats missing or found dead of blunt trauma force.

One cat was found in a ritualistic burial in a box, wrapped in plastic with rocks piled on top.

San Jose Police have not confirmed the identity of the deceased cat in the car or its owner.

The judge rejected a defense motion to release Robert Farmer. Instead he imposed bail of $75,000, which is above the scheduled amount for a crime of this type.
