South Korean intelligence services have warned that North Korea is actively preparing for its fifth nuclear test.

This comes just hours after Pyongyang launched a long range rocket on Sunday.

The South reported that their military had discovered fragments and debris from the North’s long range rocket, claiming that they had failed the launch.

The metal fragment is believed to be the nose cone of the rocket, it was discovered southeast of Jeju island by a naval ship.

Yonhap News Agency reported that North Korea now has the technology available for the construction of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

In a statement they said: “The satellite is presumed to weigh 200 kilograms, two times heavier than the satellite launched in 2012.”

According to military officials, satellited usually weigh at least 800 to 1,500 kilograms.

“North Korea has committed an unacceptable provocation by launching a long-range missile after conducting a fourth nuclear test,” the South Korean President said.

The launch prompted concern as a probable long-range missile test.

The UN Security Council has now set up an emergency meeting to discuss the situation.
