St Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey has been shot twice in the head in Miami, Florida.

The 25-year-old footballer was serving a four-game ban for a substance abuse violation and was visiting relatives in Miami when a gunman approached the car he was in.

The gunman managed to escape after shooting Bailey and his cousin.

According to NFL.com, Bailey was shot in Miami Gardens in Florida. He was hit twice in the head, while his cousin, who was driving, was hit several times.

Bailey’s condition is not understood to be life-threatening although he is expected to undergo surgery later today.

His cousin, however, is in a critical condition.

Bailey is understood to be assisting police with their investigation and their efforts to identify the gunman.

 According to a statement released by the St Louis Rams: ‘We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening.

‘We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition.

‘We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.’
