One lucky customer mistakenly purchased a Mega Millions ticket instead of the Powerball and won $165million.
The unidentified man bought the winning Quik-Pick ticket for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing at the Willowbrook Deli on Staten Island.
Deli manager Sarbjit Singh told the Staten Island Advance he was ‘shocked’ to have sold the winning ticket – but hopes the winner is a regular customer.
‘We didn’t see the winner yet, but we’ve been asking our regular customers to check their tickets,’ he said.
The winning Mega Millions numbers were 11, 39, 51, 57 and 75, plus the Mega Ball 2. The cash value of the prize is $101million.
As no ticket matched all six Powerball numbers on Saturday, the jackpot has now grown to a staggering $1.3billion, which is now a world record.
The country. saw sales of $277 million on Friday alone and more than $400 million were expected Saturday, according to Gary Grief, the executive director of the Texas Lottery.
