“As we drove by we could smell the marijuana smoke coming from the car,” said Sergeant Bryan Cullen. “The occupants fled when they noticed us, but we were able to grab one of them and recover the two guns later.”

Police officers recovered a stolen car and two loaded handguns after stopping to investigate an illegally parking vehicle in Queens. On Thursday February 8 at approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the 113th Precinct Anti-crime Team observed a vehicle parked at a fire hydrant at the intersection of Anderson Road and Sidway Place. When they stopped to speak to the driver, the man and an occupant both fled. Sergeant Cullen and Police Officer Lewis pursued one of the men through an alley until they caught up and placed him under arrest.

When they returned to the parked car they observed a handgun through the window. The vehicle was impounded and a subsequent inventory resulted in the recovery of two loaded handguns. The second suspect was arrested the next day by police officers in the 103rd Precinct. The vehicle was found to have been stolen in January from a rental agency in Astoria.
