A Gaithersburg, Maryland, 15-year-old who was the victim of a gang-related killing died of multiple forms of trauma to her upper body, Fairfax County police said Friday.

Damaris Reyes Rivas’s body was discovered near an industrial area in Springfield, Virginia, on Feb. 10, police said. Police said she was held against her will, assaulted and then killed sometime around Jan. 8.

Police this week announced charges against 10 suspects, ages 15 to 21, in the slaying; five are facing murder charges. Police have declined to offer a motive in the teenager’s killing.

Reyes Rivas voluntarily left home in December but later became endangered. Her mother said she had been involved with the MS-13 gang.

Reyes Rivas’s case has connections to the disappearances of two other teenage girls, who returned home safely, and the killing of a Fairfax County man in Dumfries, Va., in January.

Police did not detail what kind of trauma Reyes Rivas suffered.
