A 19-year-old father in Houston, Texas died on Tuesday, after accidentally shooting himself whilst posing with a gun for a selfie.
Deleon Alonso Smith was at his apartment at approximately 1:30pm when the gun abruptly went off and hit him in the throat and he died as a result.
Smith’s cousin was in the apartment at the time, in a different room, and told police that they had found the gun earlier in the day.
‘It’s just crazy how somebody could be here one minute and the second they’re gone,’ his sister told KPRC.
Friends and family say the teen was a father of two young children and planned to start college the next day.
‘It’s a numb feeling. It’s still unbelievable. Yesterday was my birthday and he came to wish me happy birthday, and now this kind of news,’ said Smith’s grandmother Alma Douglas.
