KNOXVILLE, TN — An inmate was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after jumping from a top tier inside the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.

According to the Knox County Sheriff, a female inmate attempted to jump from a top tier inside the facility around 12:48 p.m. An officer tried to prevent the jump and held onto her as she hung over the side, but she jerked free and fell.

Another officer had enough time to place a mat on the floor to pad her fall.

The inmate was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
