Demarcus Semer: Tensions Grow Over Fatal Police Shooting In Florida

Fort Pierce, FL — A police department in Florida has handed over an investigation into an fatal officer involved shooting.

Sheriff Mascara announced today that Fort Pierce Police Department Chief Diane Hobley-Burney has requested the Sheriff’s Office coordinate the investigation of an officer involved shooting that occurred last night at N. 19th Street and Avenue G.

“At approximately 11:55 p.m. Saturday night, two Fort Pierce Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Avenue G and N. 19th Street in Fort Pierce,” said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

“During the traffic stop, the driver attempted to flee and ran over one of the officers, injuring his leg. That officer was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute where he was treated and released. The second officer was partially inside the vehicle attempting to stop the driver and was trapped inside until it finally stopped approximately 600 feet from the original location. That officer fired his service weapon, fatally injuring the driver.”

According to Sheriff Mascara, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver was identified as 21-year-old Demarcus Semer,” said Sheriff Mascara. “Semer has no prior arrests in St. Lucie County.

“Our detectives are continuing to fully investigate this incident and no further information is available at this time,” Mascara said.

According to CBS12, witnesses tell a completely different story, saying that Semer fled with his hands up and ran toward a friend’s house.

‘Semer was shot 4 times in the back and his body was found behind the house,’ the report said.
