A young boy has lost his life after he got trapped under the handrail of an escalator in China.
The tragic incident took place at a metro station Chongqing, south west China.
At this time, it’s not clear how the incident occurred.
The incident took place in the crowded Hong Chi He Gou station at around 11am local time.
Somehow, a boy was swept under the handrail of the escalator and became trapped. It is thought he had suffocated.
Although station staff acted quickly, they were unable to save the boy in time.
The escalator has now been closed pending further investigation. Local police have yet to release a statement.
There has been a string of escalator accidents in recent months in China.
In July this year, a young woman from Hubei, central China, died after falling into an escalator. Her son narrowly escaped the same fate.
