Two Officers Shot During Car Chase in Cordele, Georgia

Cordele, GEORGIA — Officials were investigating an officer-involved shooting on Interstate-75 near mile marker 99 in Crisp County Thursday evening. A suspect is dead and two officers were shot during the incident.

WALB reported: “[…] The incident began when an Ashburn Police officer went to conduct a traffic stop on a car without a tag near mile marker 82 on I-75.

The driver of the car did not stop, and a chase began on the Interstate.

During the chase, GBI agents said those in the car began firing at the Ashburn officer, as well as Turner County Sheriff’s deputies and Georgia State Patrol officers who had joined the pursuit.

Officials said the driver of the car was killed. A passenger in the car was also shot.”

Both officers, one from the Ashburn Police Department and the other from the Turner County Sheriff’s Office, are expected to survive.

Identities were not immediately released.
