Explosion Rocks Brooklyn Building; 1 Dead, 10 Hurt

BROOKLYN — On Saturday, at 1:05 p.m., police responded to a report of a building explosion at 4206 13 Avenue, Brooklyn, within the confines of the 66 Precinct.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a building with significant structural damage that was engulfed in fire.

Members of the FDNY also responded and extinguished the fire.  An unidentified female, who was unconscious and unresponsive, was discovered in the stairwell where she was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene.

Three additional people were discovered outside of the building suffering from various injuries. A 34-year-old man with a fractured leg and ankle as well as a 9-year-old boy, who also sustained a leg injury, were transported to Methodist Hospital by EMS.

A 27-year-old man was also removed to Methodist Hospital with minor injuries to his legs.

The removal of a high-end stove may have sparked a gas explosion, the Daily News reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
