Air Force General James Martin Jr, aged 52, was discussing the future of the F-35 program when he slumped forward onto the podium.
Aides and other officials helped Martin and joked that he fainted after reading the budget.
It was later revealed that he was suffering from either the flu or a cold.
Three Air Force staffers rushed over and grabbed Martin, who appeared dazed.
He then was escorted out of the room and taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
He returned to work the next day and is said to be doing well, an Air Force spokesperson confirmed.
