WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) Just a day before Thanksgiving, an animal-rights group has released a report outlining ‘shocking’ conditions at a sustainable California farm that has long been supplying turkeys to Whole Foods Market.

According to the group Direct Action Everywhere, also known as DxE, the high-end grocery chain boasting 433 locations in US and UK has been misleading its customers about the welfare of some of the turkeys it sells, falsely claiming that the birds had been raised in humane conditions.

The claims were laid out in a new report titled ‘A Deadly Feast: What You Are Not Told About You Thanksgiving Turkey,’ which was the result of a nine-month investigation conducted by Direct Action Everywhere.

According to a summary of the 12-page report, Whole Foods’ long-time supplier Diestel Turkey Ranch operates a ‘showcase’ farm in Sonora, California, which has received the highest rating of 5+ in an animal-welfare system used by the supermarket chain.

The organization’s report claims that on that other farm, turkeys live in ‘filthy, noxious, and crowded barns’ covered in feces, a half-foot deep in some places.

There are a total of 26 barns on the property, according to the report, with 7,000-17,000 turkeys crammed into each shed.
