WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) Video footage has emerged of the dramatic moment a family of three are rescued from a large sinkhole which swallowed their car in Trujillo, Peru.
The family’s car was swallowed by the 16 foot sinkhole which appeared from underneath them without warning.
Eyewitnesses videos the dramatic rescue as pedestrians risked their lives to save the family.
The footage shows one of the rescuers handing on a make-shift length of rope tied to the front door of the car.
The video then shows the woman climb up through the car.
Edgar Orlando Bartolo Silva told Terra Peru that he and his girlfriend Marisol Mercedes Guitierrez Sicha and their two-year-old daughter were trapped inside the car.
He said: ‘Some people helped us, but we were scared, because water began to filter into the vehicle.’
The sinkhole is believed to have appeared because of the heavy rain in the area last week.
The extent of their injuries is not known
