ROCHESTER, N.H. – On Saturday, at 8:41am, Officers of the Rochester Police Department responded to Washington Street for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, a 52 year old male was driving on Washington Street with his 1 year old daughter. The male saw a female walking in the roadway, prompting him to stop and ask if she needed a ride.

The female, later identified as Joanne Shaw, said yes and got into the vehicle. The male and Joanne did not know each other prior to this interaction. Joanne told the male she was going to take his daughter and made attempts to unbuckle the 1 year old, prompting a struggle to ensue.

Joanne then grabbed for the male’s car keys and broke the vehicle key in half. As the vehicle came to a stop, Joanne was able to take the 1 year old and fled the vehicle on foot with the child.

The male caught Joanne, who then punched him twice. Officers arrived on scene and attempted to detain Joanne, who resisted. The child was returned to the male, unharmed.

Joanne was arrested on the following charges:

Kidnapping – Class A Felony
Simple Assault x 2 – Class A Misdemeanor
Criminal Mischief – Class B Misdemeanor
Resisting Arrest or Detention – Class B Misdemeanor

Joanne was held on $5,000.00 cash bail and transported to the Strafford County House of Corrections, pending her arraignment on 07-24-2017 at 12:30 Strafford County Superior Court.
