NASHVILLE, Tennessee — The Music City rarely gets snow. From 1981 to 2010, the Nashville area received an average of 6.1 inches of snow each winter, according to NWS data. Although, the region hasn’t seen that much snow in four years combined.

But this past week, the city was rocked with an ice storm followed by 3 inches of snow accumulation. With schools closed, the kids grabbed their sleds, trashcan lids or whatever they could and went to jump in, resulting in dozens and dozens of injuries.

Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital told WSMV-TV they’ve seen at least 46 sledding-related injuries among children in the past two days, alone… And that’s just one hospital.

Doctors there said most of the injuries are from collisions with people or objects.

Officials in Nashville told the station children can enjoy the snow, but they need to be careful about where they sled. Doctors also said children should wear helmets when sledding.

Nashville is the capital of the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Davidson County. Nashville is the largest city in Tennessee and is the third largest city in the Southeastern United States.
