14-year-old Calif. boy arrested in the deadly shooting of a 22-year-old, police say

MERCED, Calif. – A California teenager is in custody and police say he is responsible for a homicide that occurred Wednesday.

Around 3:15 P.M. local time, Merced Police responded to a shooting in the 600 block of W. 11th Street. Officers found a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit was in the area at the time of the shooting and saw the 14-year-old boy running from the scene. He was quickly detained and a firearm was recovered.

“We are continuing to investigate the motive for the shooting, but it is believed to be gang related,” police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Neither the suspect nor victim were identified.
