CEDAR PARK, Texas — On Sunday,  at 3:10 p.m., Cedar Park Police received a disturbance call at a home at 2304 Natalie Cove.

The caller stated her son had kicked in the door and was becoming aggressive.

When officers arrived on scene and entered the home, gun shots were fired towards the officers at which time, our officers returned fire. Three officers were hit and were able to exit the house to get help.

The suspect, Joseph DeSean Taylor, 26, then barricaded himself inside the home with three family hostages. Taylor has a history of family violence and mental illness.

The officers involved were quickly transported to a local hospital. Two have since been released and one had surgery Monday morning and remains in stable condition.

The wounded officers are:

Officer Jacqueline Quiles – she’s served here for 4 years

Officer Cris Hester – he’s a 10-year veteran with the department

Officer Nik Anderson – been with us as an officer for 8 years

After more than 16 hours of negotiation with the Central Texas Regional SWAT Team, Taylor came out of the house peacefully at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Monday, August 17th.

Taylor was taken to a local hospital to be examined and is awaiting transport to the Williamson County Jail. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant and three counts of aggravated kidnapping.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott released this:

“Our hearts are with the police officers who were injured while protecting the Cedar Park community this afternoon. We must never take for granted the service and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers, and the State of Texas stands ready to provide the support and resources needed to bring justice to those involved. I ask that all Texans join Cecilia and me in prayer for the these officers, and for the safety of all law enforcement officers across the state.”

The Texas Rangers are now the lead investigating agency in conjunction with the Cedar Park Criminal Investigations Division. There appears to have been more than 50 rounds fired.

An internal investigation is also underway, each officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
