LOS ANGELES — A Lancaster man was charged with fatally shooting his 13-year-old sister at their home.
Eddie Marcelino Alvirez faces one felony count each of involuntary manslaughter and discharge of firearm with gross negligence.
Victim Marlena A. was shot to death on Aug. 13, prosecutors said. The defendant fled the scene after the shooting and turned himself in the following day.
The family says Eddie accidentally fired the weapon–adding he would never intentionally hurt his sister.
Bail is scheduled at $75,000. If convicted as charged, Alvirez faces a possible maximum sentence of 14 years in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
