NASHVILLE — An argument over a marijuana deal in the parking lot of a Hickory Hollow grocery store turned deadly for two young men, one local, the other from Memphis, late Friday night.

De Arious A. Harris, 23, of Hickory Club Drive in Antioch, died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Craige Strickland, 18, of Memphis, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

South Precinct officers were dispatched to a shooting call in the parking lot of the Kroger store at 5319 Mt. View Road a few minutes before midnight. While en route, officers were redirected to a nearly Waffle House where one of the victims (Harris) had been driven. Harris was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A short time later, North Precinct officers responded to a shooting victim (Strickland) who had been driven to General Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

After interviews with Harris’ girlfriend and four men who accompanied Strickland, it appears that Harris had arranged to meet the Strickland group in the Kroger parking lot to sell marijuana. During the meeting, a disagreement ensued, resulting in gunfire.

South Precinct detectives continue to piece together exactly what occurred. Based on evidence recovered thus far, including two guns, detectives presently believe that Harris and Strickland shot each other.
