Are you looking into getting a burner phone or a burner number? What drew you into it? Do you think it will add any conveniences to your life? Have you had any issues with privacy? Is there any comfort to be had in having a second number just in case?

Whatever your reasoning, it’s important to determine if getting a burner number is the right choice for you. While there may be some negative points, like paying for the extra number, managing multiple numbers, or occasional mix-ups, there are plenty of positives to consider about getting burner numbers as well.

In this article, we’ll look over some of the beneficial aspects that a burner phone number can add into your life.

A Little Extra Privacy

Have you ever noticed that things you sign up for, whether they’re websites offering services, businesses trying to sell you on products, or even restaurants with long wait times, will almost always wind up asking you for your phone number at some point or another?

They want to be able to use two-factor authentication, let you know about their latest deals, or just let you know that your table is ready for dining in.

However, all of these texts have a tendency to fill up your inbox. And what’s worse is that these companies now have access to a personal piece of your information. Whether they have good intentions or not, that can be a little bit scary and off-putting to some of us who just want to go about our days without worrying about miscellaneous messages.

If you get a burner number, you no longer need to worry about giving out your main number to these companies. Additionally, you can give this number to anyone you don’t plan on having any serious conversations with, including those with whom you’ll only be exchanging information for a short period of time.

Let Yourself Get Organized

To build on my last point a little bit, you can also use a burner number to add a little bit of organization to your social life.

Many people will use alternate phones and numbers for work or school obligations, and one of the benefits of this is having all of your work information be separate from your personal life. No one can bother you during your off time because you’ve turned the phone off after you’ve clocked out for the day.

But if work doesn’t provide you with this extra phone, for whatever reason, you can get a burner phone number to organize work out of your social life more completely. This is even useful for students who don’t want to be interrupted by project partners while they’re out with their friends or just prioritizing their self-care and mental health.

If you wanted to go to the extreme, you could do this for even more sectors of your life. Have a separate number for the volunteering you do on the weekends, for church, for your gym class buddies, and anything else you can think of!

Pick Your Own Phone Number

Many people, especially those who have founded businesses around specific industries, will find themselves wanting to get their hands on specific phone numbers for company use. And, very often, it can be a very useful marketing tactic to pick a number that is both easy to remember and is closely associated with your business or industry.

Further, it can be useful to have multiple phone numbers depending on how many active and separate marketing campaigns you have going on. Want to see how many calls you get in from the billboard ads? What about the company’s social media accounts?

There are even a select few who have always had special connections to specific numbers or sets of numbers who probably wouldn’t mind being able to pick their own phone numbers for personal use.

Picking your own phone number is easy to achieve, especially if you decide to get a burner phone number. While this is not the most practical reason to get a personalized phone number, this can also make using your phone more enjoyable.

This is the case whether you’re trying to write out a special message in pager-speak, want your phone number to look a specific way, or anything else in between!

Don’t Give Out Your Personal Phone Number

Many people value their personal privacy, and so much so that they refuse to give out their phone numbers except for a very select few who have earned their trust.

Going along the lines of privacy and organization, you can also keep yourself safer if you choose not to give out your personal phone number. You can either choose to not give out your number at all, or just give them your burner number if you don’t trust yourself to give out a fake number.

Doing this can help keep you safe, especially if you don’t want others to see your profiles on social media that you’ve connected to a phone number.
