CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Daquan ‘Donkey Cartel’ Westbrook was fatally shot on Christmas Eve after being embroiled in an altercation between two groups of people at the Northlake shopping Mall.
Officials have confirmed that during the altercation there was an armed subject, which turned out to be Daquan, a resident of Huntersville, North Carolina.
The suspected gunman was enrolled at the North Carolina Central University, although the focus of his studies is unknown.
Throughout the final months of his life, it was clear that Donkey had a more sinister side to him.
Daquan had set his sights on making a name for himself in the rap community, he can be seen within his photos flaunting money and posing on an older Mercedes with his hands up showing gang signs.
No longer than two months ago, he expressed his support for members of the Bloods and Crips gang, who are notorious for extreme violent crime, on his Facebook page.
This is not the first time that ‘Donkey’ has been in trouble with the law, he boasted on his Facebook page about how he just ‘got off’ probation, although the charges against him are not known, he was on probation for over 6 months.
According to his social media accounts, he was expecting a child with his girlfriend and shortly after he was shot dead, it is rumored the mother of his child gave birth.
Despite his upcoming parental duties, he continued to post on social media about guns, gangs and prison life. He even boasted about being incarcerated in the same prison as his friends.
The days leading up to his death, he complained on social media about his previous probation and how difficult it was to get life insurance while on probation.
Two people suffered minor injures during the mall shooting. No police officers were injured.
