(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit have charged Willie Mack in connection with a cold case rape investigation that occurred on September 20, 1998. A review of this cold case file led to this investigation being reopened and charges being filed.
Willie Pearl Mack has been charged with a previously unsolved stranger rape which occurred on September 20, 1998 in the area of North Street and Moore Street. DNA has linked Mack to the crime scene.
Mack has been charged with 1st Degree Rape (2 counts).
Mack was already being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center for his previous unrelated charges and received an additional $200,000 secured bond.
The sexual assault kit from this case was tested utilizing funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s FY2016 National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Grant.
